DC Electric Tooling, What Sets It Apart From Pneumatic
DC electric assembly tools, nutrunners, screwdrivers and their controllers, operate on different principles to pneumatic tools and have correspondingly different service and calibration requirements.
A pneumatic tool delivers torque through air pressure and mechanical components. A DC transducerised tool measures torque directly via a transducer built into the tool head, converts that signal to a digital reading based on a stored calibration factor, and cuts off drive when the programmed target is reached. Current control tools achieve the same outcome through motor current monitoring rather than a dedicated transducer.
Both approaches deliver fastening precision that pneumatic tooling cannot match, and both require periodic recalibration to maintain that precision. The transducer calibration factor drifts as components age, brushes wear and mechanical clearances develop. The current control system's relationship between motor current and output torque shifts as motor characteristics change. In either case, the tool continues to operate and signal completion, the torque delivered to the fastener is what changes, silently.
That is why service and calibration for DC tooling is not optional housekeeping. It is a quality control requirement.

Service and Preventive Maintenance
What a DC tool service involves
A full service on a DC electric assembly tool covers mechanical and electrical inspection, strip-down of the gear train and motor assembly, replacement of worn components, brushes, seals, bearings, lubrication to manufacturer specification, reassembly and functional testing. Post-service torque verification is carried out on every DC tool before it leaves us.
Recommended service intervals
Manufacturer-recommended major overhaul for DC tooling in continuous production falls every 1,000–1,500 operating hours, typically every 12–18 months. Tools used on high-cycle applications or in harsh environments may require shorter intervals. We can build a Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) schedule around actual runtime data from your tool fleet rather than a fixed calendar interval, which for high-cycle tools makes a measurable difference to both service cost and unplanned downtime. Controller service and setup
Controllers, Power Focus, Fiam MCA, Delta Regis controllers and others, are serviced alongside the tool where relevant. Firmware versions are checked, parameter sets are documented before service and restored after, and the tool-controller combination is verified as a system before return.
Repair
Fault diagnosis and quotation
When a DC or electric tool arrives at our depot, our engineers carry out a full strip-down diagnosis. A free written quote is issued within 24 hours of the tool arriving. No repair begins until you confirm the quote.

Repair process
Repair work is carried out using genuine manufacturer parts wherever available. For Delta Regis tools, we hold UK stock directly as sole distributor. For Atlas Copco tools, we have approved service centre access to OEM parts. For other brands, we source genuine parts through our manufacturer relationships.
Every repaired DC tool undergoes post-repair torque verification before return. The repair is documented and a 3-month parts and labour warranty covers all work carried out.
UKAS Calibration for DC and Electric Tools
Torque calibration for DC and electric assembly tools is carried out in our UKAS ISO-17025 accredited laboratory. Every certificate issued carries traceability to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and is accepted under ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and AS9100 without qualification.
What DC tool calibration involves
The tool is verified at multiple torque points across its programmed range using calibrated torque transducers referenced to our UKAS-accredited equipment. For transducerised tools, the stored calibration factor is assessed and adjusted where required. For current control tools, the relationship between motor current and output torque is verified against reference measurements. The controller output is assessed alongside the mechanical delivery where the tool and controller are calibrated as a system.
Certificates are issued per tool, with the tool identification, date of calibration, measured values, calibration equipment reference and traceability, and next calibration due date recorded on each.
On-site calibration
On-site calibration is available for facilities where removing production tools is impractical or where line-integrated tools cannot be shipped without stoppage.
